Floor Plan Sketches
Two space plans were explored in attempts to stray from the typical sharp corners and straight hallways of hospitals. Both play with unconventional curves as well as an emphasis on the visibility of the nursing station.
One of the goals of the redesign was to create a more spacious lay- out. Although only one unit was fully designed, this can be applied to other units of the hospital as well.

Nursing Station
For patients and their families walking though the unit, the nursing station is accessible as it is in their direct view.
For medical staff, they have a large space to work in as well as a designated break room adjacent to the nursing station.
Patient Rooms
With larger patient rooms, patients’ families have a comfortable space to spend time and care for their loved ones. There is also an additional family room whenever medical staff need family to leave the room.
Shades of blue-grey are used throughout the unit to evoke feelings of calm in times of stress. The pops of pink are used to balance the blue as well as convey a sense of safety to patients and their families.
